Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre
Next to the Three Kings Monument in the Old City has an exhibition telling the story for prehistoric to present times. Open Tuesday to Sunday (0 5321 7793).

The Chiang Mai National Museum
Located beside Wat Chet Yot, tells the story of Chiang Mai's past, through pictures and displays. There is a well catalogued and preserved collection of artefacts, including Buddhist icons, pottery, weapons and household or agricultural items from the Lanna period. It is open daily, except Mondays, Tuesdays and official holidays, from 9.00 a.m. until noon, and 13.00 until 16.00. (053 221 308)

Tribal Museum of Chiang Mai
Located in Ratchamankla Park, this museum documents the lives and cultures of Northern Thailand's unique hill-tribes, including the Hmong, Karen, Akkha, Lisu, Lahu and Mien. An impressive range of colourful costumes, unusual accessories and jewelry, tools, utensils, musical instruments is on display. Open from 9am - 4pm Monday to Friday. Rajamankala Park (053 210 872)

Museum of World Insects and Natural
Wonders A collection of insects of all shapes and sizes with emphasis on research into mosquitoes displaying all 422 varieties of mosquitoes. Open daily 9 - 17.00 at 13, Srimankalajarn Rd. (053 211 891)

Home of Princess Dara Rasmi
Displays the Chiang Mai home of Princess Dara Rasmi, who was a consort of King Chulalonghorn and half-sister of the chief Prince of Lanna at the time. Open 9 - 17.00 from Tuesday to Sunday located off Mae Rim Road. (053 299 175)

Chiang Mai Air Museum
A collection of old relic planes left behind by the Japanese after WWII, plus Royal Thai Air Force planes. Air Force Base 41, near Chiang Mai Airport. (0 5320 2617).
