Flights are operated by an increasign number of airlines. The competition has led to reduced air fares in recent years. The airport is very close to the city centre. Most hotels offer a pick up service and if not licensed taxis are available at the counter on your right as you leave the baggage hall and are not expensive.

Chiang Mai by Train
There are many trains each day from Bangkok, with differing classes and speeds and averages 11 hours. The over night sleeper is popular and most trains departing from 16:00 onwards have bunks. Trains depart from the Hua Lampong Station and all serve food at reasonable prices. Chiang Mai Railway Station is along Charoen Muang Road. Luggage storage is available at the station. Chiang Mai by Bus
Air-conditioned buses leave Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit 2). The journey takes about nine hours and different standards of bus operate. Buses can be booked with travel agents in Bangkok. Dress for cold air conditioning on the bus. Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Station (053 242664) is on Kaew Nawaratt Road. There are services from Chiang Mai's Chang Phuak Bus Terminal to various districts in Chiang Mai. Buses ply along the northern route (Highway No. 107) passing through Mae Rim, Mae Taeng, Chiang Dao, Chaiprakan, Fang and Mae Ai. Some buses continue to Tha Ton. Chiang Mai by Car
The drive from Bangkok is 696 kilometres passing Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok and finally Lamphun and into Chiang Mai.
