Chiang Mai transport

Tuk-tuk The three wheeled tuk tuks are common and make up for the lack of taxis. Fix the fare prior to starting the journey.

Saam Lor For relatively short distances the bicycle "Saam Lor" is available but not the cheapest form of Chiang Mai transport.

	Songtaew Songtaew are small pickups fitted with side benches in the back. They pick up and drop off passengers along a variable route. Raise your hand, the Songtaew will slow down and shout out your destination and if matches the route then they will take you. The fare varies depending on the distance. Press the buzzer where you want to stop.

	Motorcycle Motorcycles can be rented and helmets must be worn and do pay the extra for insurance. They range from 100cc road bikes ot 250cc trail bikes. An international licence is needed.

	Public Bus The public bus system runs from 6am to 10pm and is not expensive. Route 2: Lamphun Road to 7th Field Artillery, Mae Rim *Route 4: International Airport via Wualai & Charoen Muang roads to Carrefour Route 6: Around the Mahidol ring road. Route 8: Provincial Hall, Mae Rim to International Airport Route 10: Kwan Vieng Village, Hangdong Road to city centre Route 12*: Nong Hoy to City Moat to Chiang Mai University

	Bicycle: Hire a bicycle and risk the roads. Do take care but is possible to cycle around.

	Taxi Chiang Mai has a limited taxi service and relatively expensive.
